Glazing has a major impact on
Energy Consumption

Glass is one of the most practical, versatile and interesting building products. Despite its transparent nature, glazing, when used to its full potential, is often the most extraordinary architectural feature of a building. It can add interesting and unique elements to any building - adding character and improving the form and function of a space. Glazing also provides significant benefits to building occupants through the use of natural light, creating a feeling of openness and providing expansive views of the outside world.

Single Glazing

Single glazing comprises off one layer of glass, bedded into the window frame. Single glazing is traditionally fixed with linseed oil putty and secured with glazing nails into the frame. Glazing beads can further secure the glass and are usually screwed and glued to the frame.

Single glazing
The term 'glazing' refers to the glass component of a building's facade or internal surfaces.

Historically, the external windows of buildings were generally single glazed, consisting of just one layer of glass, however, multi-layered glazing system were developed such as double glazing and triple glazing to improve performance.

Single glazing comprises off one layer of glass, bedded into the window frame. Single glazing is traditionally fixed with linseed oil putty and secured with glazing nails into the frame. Glazing beads can further secure the glass and are usually screwed and glued to the frame. If the window frame is timber it must be painted or otherwise treated to avoid water ingress.

Single glazing has poor thermal performance, and may not be permitted in new buildings other than those which do not have controlled internal environments, such as storage facilities.

Double Glazing

Double glazing is used in all kinds of glass installations (particularly windows), and involves two panes of glass set in the same frame, that are separated by a thin layer of air (a vacuum) or sometimes inert gas such as argon. It's this layer between the two panels that's the magic ingredient.

The unique design of double-glazed products insulates against heat and cold up to four times more effectively than single-glazed windows and doors. The space between the two panes of glass acts as a thermal barrier between your home and the outside environment.

Double Glazing is when two panes of glass (separated by a layer of air), are used in a home's window. This provides another layer of insulation for your home, decreasing heat loss through your windows.

Triple Glazing

By adding a third pane of glass to double glazing, you have triple glazing. Between the 3 panes are 2 pockets of gas, which most of the time is either argon, xenon or krypton. Triple glazing insulates better than double, lowering energy bills and keeping your home warmer in the winter. The improved heat retention is especially useful if you're looking to replace single or old, inefficient double glazing. Triple glazing is more effective at reducing condensation build-up on your windows.

Triple glazing, on the other hand, is an almost bulletproof option. You can choose a tempered glass from some suppliers in your windows which is four times tougher than standard designs. With three panes of that, you'll never have to worry about your windows breaking out of nowhere
